UW–Madison's Division of the Arts welcomes Litza Bixler as the spring 2021 Interdisciplinary Artist-in-Residence. Bixler is a choreographer, filmmaker, movement director, visual artist, and writer. She has produced work on stage, screen, galleries, and mountains. Bixler works across the spheres of art, performance, and film, and has been a working artist and educator since 1995.

“Moonshine” is a traditional performance gathering featuring dance, spoken word, and experimental contemporary performance. This year's event is free and open to the public, and will stream live on YouTube at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, 26.

As part of UW–Madison’s recognition of Black History Month, University Health Services (UHS) Mental Health Services will host a panel event next Monday, Feb. 22, titled “Beyond Resilience: A community conversation about the preservation, health, and strength of Black Men.” The panel will feature Chris Walker, a professor in the School of Education’s Dance Department, along with Dennis McLeod II, a behavioral health psychologist and assistant professor at Vanderbilt University.

Li Chiao-Ping Dance (LCPD) has been awarded a $10,000 National Endowment for the Arts grant to support the creation of “Here Lies the Truth” — a new multimedia dance that addresses fact and fiction, and how they infiltrate the personal and political environments we experience. LCPD is led by Artistic Director Li Chiao-Ping, who is a Vilas Research Professor with the School of Education’s Dance Department.

The UW–Madison Community Arts Collaboratory is receiving a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Research Lab award to support a new study examining the value of community arts education initiatives. The Arts Collab is housed in our office of Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE), and provides research-based arts opportunities for youth to grow as learners, cultivate wellness, and advocate for social change.
