UW–Madison’s Andrea Harris is the author of a new article that was published in Dance Research Journal, titled “Blanche Evan’s ‘Film Studies of the Dance’: The ‘Technique Problem’ and the Creation of New Forms in 1930s Revolutionary Dance.” Harris is an associate professor and chair of the School of Education’s Dance Department.

Li Chiao-Ping Dance is launching a national tour of its mixed-media, collaborative dance theater work, “Here Lies the Truth,” in August. The tour will begin in Honolulu, Hawaii, on Aug. 13, with performances in San Francisco and Minneapolis to follow in the fall and spring.

Michelle (Chell) Parkins was recently named the inaugural Arnhold Director in Dance Education with UW–Madison’s Dance Department, a position she will start on Aug. 1.

Three projects led by School of Education faculty and staff are among eight projects and 10 seed projects selected to receive grants from the Ira and Ineva Reilly Baldwin Wisconsin Idea Endowment. These projects show the range of how UW–Madison faculty, staff, and students can collaborate with community members to co-create and share knowledge and solutions that will benefit and enrich the lives of the people of Wisconsin, the nation, and the world.

New York City-based choreographer Cameron McKinney, artistic director of Kizuna Dance, has been a summer guest artist in the School of Education’s Dance Department the past three weeks. The residency will culminate on Friday, June 10, at noon, with a premiere of a new work created by McKinney on Dance Department students in the Margaret H’Doubler Performance Space in Lathrop Hall.

Mary Alice “Buff” Brennan, a longtime UW–Madison faculty member who dedicated her career to supporting and encouraging dance students, died on April 8, 2022. Brennan was a professor emerita in the School of Education’s Dance Department, where she was on the faculty from 1967 until her retirement in 2002.
