Work of UW–Madison’s Burayidi, Winston picked for ACDA’s Screendance Festival Gala Concert on April 2

The work of UW–Madison undergraduate students Aki Burayidi and Rakhi Winston was selected by an adjudication panel to be performed at the American College Dance Association’s Screendance Festival Gala Concert on Saturday, April 2. Burayidi and Winston, who are undergraduates with the School of Education’s Dance Department, are having their work, “Between Us” showcased.

Inaugural Arts Crawl at UW–Madison starts March 31

Dance Department announces new directorship in dance education

The UW–Madison Dance Department, housed in the School of Education, announces the creation of the Arnhold Directorship in Dance Education, a position made possible by a transformational gift from dance advocate, educator, and founder of the Dance Education Laboratory Jody Gottfried Arnhold (BA 1965) and her husband John Arnhold that was matched by the School of Education’s Impact 2030 initiative.

UW–Madison faculty collaborate for performance of ‘Here Lies the Truth’ March 25-26

Li Chiao-Ping Dance (LCPD) proudly presents "Here Lies the Truth" March 25-26 at the Overture Center for the Arts. This work of multidisciplinary dance theater is an exciting mixed-media collaboration between visual artist Douglas Rosenberg, a professor in the Art Department; sound designer/composer Tim Russell, a faculty member in the Dance Department; dramaturg Cláudia Tatinge Nascimento; and choreographer Li Chiao-Ping, the Sally Banes Professor of Dance and a Vilas Research Professor in the Dance Department.

UW–Madison’s Faisal Abdu’Allah and Chris Walker were featured in a recent article in the Wisconsin State Journal shining a light on work by Black artists in Madison. The article, headlined “Black Madison artists working to create a permanent ‘renaissance,’” notes the landscape for Black artists in Madison is changing, with long-established, white-dominated institutions diversifying their offerings.

‘Moonshine’ on Feb. 25 will celebrate Black art and dance

The UW–Madison Dance Department and Professor Chris Walker are delighted to present "Moonshine," in person on Feb. 25, 2022, at 3:30 p.m., in the Margaret H'Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall. This free event is a celebration of Black History Month, with live music, contemporary theater, and dance performances including West African, Afro-Caribbean dancehall, and Hip-Hop dance forms. 

Dance Department presents Faculty Concert 2022

The UW–Madison Dance Department, housed in the School of Education, presents its Faculty Concert 2022, featuring work from Kate Corby, Duane Lee Holland Jr., Li Chiao-Ping, Liz Sexe, and guest artist Natalie Desch. The concert will take place over two weekends, Feb. 3-5 and Feb. 10-12, in the H'Doubler Performance Space, Lathrop Hall.
