Alum Dortch receives Vallejo Memorial Award for Emerging Scholarship from AERA

UW–Madison alumna Deniece Dortch is receiving the Carlos J. Vallejo Memorial Award for Emerging Scholarship from the American Educational Research Association’s (AERA) Multicultural/Multiethnic Education special interest group (SIG). She received her PhD from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 2016.

UW–Madison School of Education again ranked among best in nation

In addition, U.S. News ranks nine education graduate specialty programs — and all nine housed within the UW–Madison School of Education are rated among the Top 10 nationally.

Indigenous Learning Lab receives award from the Spencer Foundation

A research team from UW–Madison’s Culturally Responsive Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (CRPBIS), housed in the School of Education’s Wisconsin Center for Education Research, has been awarded a $50,000 grant from the Spencer Foundation. The project, titled “Indigenous Learning Lab: Implementation of a culturally responsive behavioral support system to address the racialization of school discipline,” is led by Aydin Bal and Aaron Bird Bear.

UW–Madison alum O’Connor honored with two awards from State of Wisconsin

UW–Madison alumnus David O'Connor, an education consultant with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s American Indian Studies Program, recently received a certificate of commendation from Governor Tony Evers and a legislative citation from Wisconsin State Senator Mark Miller and Representative Melissa Sargent for his work. O’Connor holds a master’s degree from the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

One individual’s trajectory offers insights into broadening participation in academic careers.” Burt is an assistant professor in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

Wang recognized for being a ‘game-changer’ in the transfer field

UW–Madison’s Xueli Wang is being honored with a Transfer Champion-Catalyst Award from the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students (NISTS). “Receiving this honor from the NISTS is especially humbling because it is an organization that primarily serves practitioners, faculty, and administrators on the ground working to improve the experiences of transfer students,” says Wang, the Barbara and Glenn Thompson Professor in Educational Leadership with the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.
