Two students from the UW–Madison School of Education are recipients of Marie Christine Kohler Fellowships from the Wisconsin Institute of Discovery (WID) for the 2022-23 academic year.
Kohler Fellows are graduate or professional students at UW–Madison who are selected on the strength of their commitment and abilities to contribute to interdisciplinary thought. Kohler Fellows work and collaborate within WID, connecting graduate students across campus through a range of stimulating projects and events.
This year’s cohort of Kohler Fellows includes Tracey Bullington, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, and Praveen Maripelly, an MFA student in the Art Department.
Bullington is a teacher and education researcher from New Orleans, Louisiana. She is interested in researching the role of the arts in K-12 education and how young people learn through creative projects. She is also a visual artist, specializing in woodcut printmaking.
Originally from India, Maripelly uses various artistic methods to creatively approach every aspect of life and bring about positive social change. His work seeks to blur lines between gender and caste issues, address institutional racism and colorism, and build social interactions and relations between people in rural areas and the greater global community.
The Kohler Fellowship program includes two types of fellowships: in art and science. Both Bullington and Maripelly are Art Fellows. They will each have a Science Fellow they partner with throughout the year to create a public art-science fusion project for the campus community.
