Following a keynote address on March 8 at the University of Crete titled, “Can Education Change Society?” Apple was presented with the Award of Honor by the post-graduate program in educational sciences, critical pedagogy, and teacher education — part of the university’s School of Education Sciences and Department of Primary Education.

In a formal ceremony, Apple was recognized for his “outstanding and enduring contributions to the advancement of critical pedagogy worldwide.” A plaque he received highlights Apple’s “visionary actions and influential scholarly work,” noting that he has inspired “countless educators and educational leaders” and “fostered continuing struggle for justice and a true democracy in many nations of the world for an education that is critically democratic.”

Apple is known internationally for his work on the politics of education, critical pedagogy, and democratic schooling.
