UW–Madison’s Erica Halverson has been named to the Executive Committee of the Alliance in the Arts for Research Universities (a2ru).

Halverson, the Gibb Faculty Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, chair of the Department of Theatre and Drama, and special advisor to the dean on arts and innovation in the School of Education, has dedicated her career to understanding how people learn in and through the arts and translating those insights into the design of learning environments. She is the author of “How the Arts Can Save Education,” host of the podcast “Arts Educators Save the World,” and self-appointed Mayor of Whoopensocker, a community arts organization that supports the development of creative expression through writing, improvisation, and performance.

The Executive Committee of a2ru is composed of national leaders and innovators from universities across the country who help shape the organization’s programs and policies.

In her nominee statement, Halverson wrote, “This is crucial time for the arts and humanities in higher education, and I am eager to work together with colleagues from across the U.S. to advocate for programs, processes, and scholarship that contributes to our collective human flourishing.”
