UW–Madison’s David Kaplan, Hilldale Professor and Richard L. Venezky WARF Professor of Educational Psychology, has received a Renewed Research Stay Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

The award recognizes Kaplan’s research contributions and collaborations with German colleagues since he first received a Humboldt Research Award in 2015.
Kaplan will spend two months at the Deutsches Jugendinstitut (German Youth Institute) in Munich. There, he will work on statistical methods for matching various data sources and on developing longitudinal methods to support research on the quality of early childhood education and care in Germany.
Kaplan will also present workshops on Bayesian statistical methods and longitudinal modeling for Deutsches Jugendinstitut staff.
According to its website, the Deutsches Jugendinstitut is one of the largest social science research institutes in Europe. For over 60 years, it has been researching the living conditions of children, young people, and families; advising federal, state, and local governments; and providing important impetus for professional practice.
