UW–Madison Community Arts Collaboratory receives grant from the National Endowment for the Arts

The UW–Madison Community Arts Collaboratory is receiving a National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Research Lab award to support a new study examining the value of community arts education initiatives. The Arts Collab is housed in our office of Professional Learning and Community Education (PLACE), and provides research-based arts opportunities for youth to grow as learners, cultivate wellness, and advocate for social change.

Charleston appointed to Gov. Evers’ Advisory Council on Equity and Inclusion

UW–Madison’s LaVar Charleston, the School of Education’s associate dean for equity, diversity, and inclusion, was named to Gov. Tony Evers’ Advisory Council on Equity and Inclusion. The council is designed to provide strategic guidance in developing a sustainable framework to promote and advance diversity, equity, and inclusion practices across Wisconsin state government.

UW–Madison student honored as one of 365 inspiring Arab women

UW–Madison student Claudia Matta Ramly was recently selected as one of "365 Inspiring Arab Women" by Women in Business Arabia. Ramly is a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology. She is also a project assistant in the Learning, Representations, and Technology Lab, housed in the School of Education.

Kuhrasch shares tips for staying active during COVID-19 in UW Now Livestream episode

UW–Madison’s Cindy Kuhrasch was featured in an episode of the UW Now Livestream, produced by the Wisconsin Alumni Association, on Dec. 15. Kuhrasch is the director of Physical Education Teacher Education program in the School of Education’s Department of Kinesiology. She appeared with Beth Olson, an associate professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences, in an episode focused on “Winter Wellness During COVID-19.”

School of Education announces master’s program scholarship to address inequities

Graduate students committed to tackling education opportunity gaps can apply for the Committed Scholars Program to earn their master’s in educational psychology with a concentration in the growing field of learning analytics. The Master of Science in Educational Psychology: Learning Analytics program empowers graduates to change teaching, learning and policy by harnessing vast amounts of educational data that will help guide decisions and improvements in education to bridge the equity gap.

CRECE presents Feb. 3 research talk on family engagement in preschool

The Center for Research on Early Childhood Education (CRECE), which is housed in the School of Education's Wisconsin Center for Education Research, is presenting a research talk by 2019 mini grant recipient Alejandra Ros Pilarz, an assistant professor in UW–Madison's Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work. The talk will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, Feb. 3, from 3:30 - 4:30 p.m.

UW–Madison alumni author Houston Law Review article

UW­–Madison alumni Bruce Meredith and Mark Paige have published an article in the Houston Law Review that is titled, “Reversing Rodriguez: A Siren Call to a Dangerous Shoal.” Paige is a School of Education graduate, having earned his PhD from the School’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis in 2011. Meredith earned his J.D. from the University of Wisconsin Law School.

UW alumnus Teitelbaum authors new book: ‘Critical Issues in Democratic Schooling’

UW–Madison alumnus Kenneth Teitelbaum has authored a new book, “Critical Issues in Democratic Schooling:  Curriculum, Teaching, and Socio-Political Realities,” which was published by Routledge in May 2020. Teitelbaum earned his doctorate from the School of Education’s Department of Curriculum in Instruction in 1985.
