Class of 2020 spotlight: Rosborough sets sights on career in public health

Despite the difficult final weeks away from campus, members of the Class of 2020 look to the next chapter in their lives.

Cecilia Rosborough
Cecilia Rosborough is graduating with a bachelor of science in kinesiology, as well as certificates in global health and leadership.

Cecilia Rosborough is one such spring graduate, hoping to lead and inspire her community through a career in public health. Next week, she will graduate with a bachelor of science in kinesiology, as well as certificates in global health and leadership.

As graduation nears, Rosborough takes this time to share memories of UW-Madison, future plans, and how the pandemic has shaped her.

How did you choose your major in kinesiology?

I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field and help others. This path also allowed me to explore my passion for protecting the environment.

What are your plans for the future?

I plan to attend graduate school to get my master’s in public health after my gap year. I eventually want to go on to work in a government setting where I can help legislators make informed decisions on public health policies.

What was your most meaningful experience at UW–Madison?

My most meaningful experience was presenting research in Biology 152. I was a part of a research lab in which I used a lot of the technology accessible to students at this university. I had the opportunity to present my work as well as see the research that hundreds of other students were doing on our campus.

COVID-19 has affected so many lives. What will you take away from this challenging time?

As a graduating senior, this pandemic has given me a lot of time to reflect on my time at UW–Madison. I have met a lot of amazing people here who have helped me to find my path in life. With this pandemic hitting our country so quickly there were a lot of goodbyes that didn’t get to happen, so reach out in any way you can and make someone else’s day.

You’ve accomplished something amazing. How will you be celebrating graduation?

Hopefully once this quarantine is over, I will be able to at least celebrate with my close friends and family. I would love to be able to enjoy the Memorial Union Terrace in celebration. But, if not, I will be able to at least enjoy a meal with my family (made at home, of course).
