Greer is a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

The article, which Greer wrote with Brandon D. Mitchell, a doctoral candidate in the Kent School of Social Work and Family Science at the University Louisville, examines the discourse surrounding learning loss as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the authors acknowledge the ongoing impact of the pandemic is “extreme and omnipresent,” they argue the stigma of labeling a generation of students from a deficit-based lens does not offer the support needed within school systems.

Greer and Mitchell call on social workers to help mitigate the harm caused by these deficit-based portrayals of youth.
