UW–Madison graduate student Sky Duke, a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Policy Studies, has been selected to participate in the 2024 NCES Data Institute.

The institute, focused on “Using Federal Datasets to Support Research on Postsecondary Education,” provides an intensive introduction to National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) datasets and research methodologies.
This year 36 participants were chosen for the institute from among 81 applicants. Those selected will engage in a five-week online course and an 18-week group capstone project, culminating in a three-day in-person meeting in Washington, D.C. in June.
Duke’s research interests are broadly focused on improving outcomes for postsecondary students from traditionally underserved populations in higher education, including racially marginalized, low-income, and returning adult learners. She has proposed a project to examine how the Michigan Reconnect, a “free college” promise program for returning adults, affects their postsecondary enrollment, completion, and student debt.
