UW–Madison’s Michael W. Apple, the John Bascom Professor Emeritus of Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Policy Studies, has been active internationally, sharing his expertise on education’s role in promoting social change.
Apple is the co-author of a new book with Fida Sanjakdar, titled “Engaging Critical Pedagogy in Education: Global Phenomenon, Local Praxis,” which brings together critical educators from around the world to describe and discuss examples of critically democratic policies and practices across education.
Apple has also presented a number of talks internationally, including a seminar on critical policy research at the Institute of Education at University College London.
In addition, he delivered a series of lectures in Taiwan, focusing on the practical application of his ideas. These include a keynote, titled “Agents of Social Transformation: Lessons From Educational Realities,” at the International Conference on Education and Power in Asia at the Academia Sinica in Taipei.
Apple also engaged with students and faculty at National Taiwan Normal University, delivering a lecture in the School of Education titled, “Can Education Change Society?”
