UW–Madison alum Carrie Coon, who earned her MFA in acting from the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama in 2006, has earned her third Primetime Emmy nomination. Coon was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Laurie in Season 3 of “The White Lotus.”

Coon is one of four cast members from “The White Lotus” nominated in the supporting actress category, alongside Parker Posey, Natasha Rothwell, and Aimee Lou Wood. The show collected 23 nominations overall, including Outstanding Drama Series and three nominations in the supporting actor category.
Before her breakout roles on screen, Coon honed her craft on stages across Wisconsin, performing with the Madison Repertory Theatre, American Players Theatre, and Renaissance Theaterworks. She was previously nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2017 for “Fargo” and again in 2024 for her role in “The Gilded Age.”
Coon’s nomination is part of a strong showing for Wisconsin-tied talent at this year’s Emmys. According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee native Noah Mitz earned his 32nd and 33rd nominations for lighting design, and UW–Milwaukee alum Chris Smith picked up two nominations for his work on the documentary series “100 Foot Wave.”
The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live from Los Angeles on September 14.
