UW–Madison’s Cooperative Children’s Book Center (CCBC) was recently featured in a Madison365 article about the Madison Metropolitan School District’s (MMSD) new reading initiative and mobile app, “Mad for Reading.”
The article, headlined “‘Mad for Reading’ app supports and celebrates MMSD students’ reading,” highlights how the new app is designed to engage students and families across the district in reading, with a collective goal of reaching 2.6 million minutes during the 2025-26 school year.
Part of MMSD’s broader literacy effort to build a culture of reading among students, “Mad for Reading” connects to curated book lists developed by district librarians and includes features such as reading challenges, leaderboards, book reviews, and classroom library tracking.
The story also notes that MMSD librarians use resources from the CCBC when curating their recommended reading lists. Maegan Heindel, MMSD’s library services coordinator, describes the CCBC as a “local gem” — serving as a valuable research library and gathering place for books, ideas, and expertise in the field of children’s and young adult literature.
