Jamie Macias was recently named the UW–Madison School of Education’s director of career services and strategy, a position she is starting on Monday, April 25.

In this new role, Macias will lead the transformation of student career services across the School of Education, which is home to over 2,700 undergraduate and graduate students in 10 departments that span the arts, health, and education. Macias will report to Christina Klawitter, the School of Education’s associate dean for student services.
“I am thrilled Jamie is joining the School of Education to lead our student career services,” says Klawitter. “The expertise she gained leading career services in the Wisconsin School of Business, along with her energy, vision, and commitment to equity make her exactly the right person to spearhead the School’s transformation of this critical student support.”
Throughout her 16 years at UW–Madison, Macias has successfully launched and enhanced initiatives across student career education, employer engagement, and external relations. Most recently, she has served as the finance program director for the Department of Finance, Investment, and Banking in the Wisconsin School of Business (WSB). In that first-of-its-kind role, she spearheaded a transformation of the student experience to create access for all students to quality career education integrated into the curriculum. Prior to that, Macias served for five years as the director of career engagement for the Wisconsin undergraduate business (BBA) program. There, she led a team of 10 professional staff members to achieve the most successful full-time employment rate (92 percent) and highest average salary (in fiscal year 2019) for new graduates in the program’s history.
As Macias begins work with the School of Education, her priorities will be expanding student engagement in internships, building an employer relations strategy that supports all majors and programs, and expanding student access to high-quality, personalized career advice and programming.
Macias holds a BA in Spanish from UW–Madison, and a master’s degree in education from the College Student Development and Administration program at UW–La Crosse.
“I am thrilled to join such a welcoming, student-centered, and mission-critical team in the School of Education,” says Macias. “The work ahead of us will help to advance the brand reputation of the School of Education and the broader UW–Madison campus through collaboration, and most importantly, expand the career success and satisfaction of our students.”
