As we celebrate the power of sports and sports leadership in this issue of Learning Connections, we’re happy to showcase some moments in time from this spring and summer on campus featuring School of Education students engaging in sport and fitness activities that enrich their lives.

Nora Clements, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education this spring, is the coxswain of this rowing shell. Clements says rowing “means having a family who will push you harder and lift you up.”

Katie McCaskey, a kinesiology undergraduate student, is currently training for the Chicago Marathon. McCaskey is also pursuing certificates in promoting activity for diverse abilities, disability rights and services, and leadership. She hopes to pursue a doctorate in occupational therapy.

Ash Vijayaraghavan, a kinesiology undergraduate student, steps up to batting practice. Vijayaraghavan is an avid cricket player and is the bowler (similar to pitching in baseball) on his team in the Madison Cricket Association.

Sophie Schaubel, a health promotion and health equity and neurobiology undergraduate student, is training for the Milwaukee and Madison marathons. Schaubel is also working toward a certificate in disability rights and services and hopes to pursue a career as a physician assistant.
