Promega to feature exhibition by UW–Madison’s Abdu’Allah

UW–Madison’s Faisal Abdu’Allah, the Chazen Family Distinguished Chair in Art in the School of Education’s Art Department, will present his newest exhibition, “Family Ties,” as part of the Promega Fall Art Showcase, opening Sept. 9 at the Promega BioPharmaceutical Technology Center in Fitchburg, Wisconsin.

Abdu’Allah

Abdu’Allah’s exhibition offers a deeply personal exploration of identity, legacy, and the powerful bonds that define our sense of belonging. At the heart of “Family Ties” is Abdu’Allah’s belief that family, whether rooted in bloodlines, chosen kinship, or shared purpose, serves as both anchor and mirror. Through screen-printed portraits, constructed alter egos, and large photo tapestries, Abdu’Allah addresses themes including the passage of time, masculinity, mythology, and racial perception.

The opening event on Sept. 9 will feature a symposium from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., followed by a reception from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. The exhibition, open to the public, will be on view from Sept. 10 through Feb. 20, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Abdu’Allah — who was born in Britain but currently based in Madison — is an internationally recognized artist whose work has been exhibited across five continents, with pieces included in collections such as Tate Britain, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the National Maritime Museum, the Chazen Museum of Art, and the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. In addition to his faculty role, he serves as associate dean for the arts in the School of Education.
