Several faculty members and alumni from UW–Madison’s Department of Educational Policy Studies (EPS) and Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA) are featured in the newly released “Handbook of Education Policy Research,” second edition, published by the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
This is the first comprehensive update of the handbook since the 1990s and represents the largest volume AERA has published to date. Edited by Lora Cohen-Vogel, Peter Youngs (an EPS alumnus), and Janelle Scott, the new edition features 70 chapters and nine commentaries that examine issues in education policy and politics across early childhood, K–12, and postsecondary contexts.
Contributors from UW–Madison include EPS faculty members Elena Aydarova, Lesley Bartlett, and Erica O. Turner, as well as Adam Gamoran, emeritus professor of sociology and educational policy studies. Faculty members from ELPA include Kevin Henry and Christopher Saldaña.
Several recent EPS PhD graduates also contributed to the volume, including Abigail Beneke (‘23), Regina Fuller (‘22), and Rosie Miesner (‘17). Other EPS alumni contributors include Kara Finnegan, Sarah A. Robert, Jennifer Sandler, and Peter Youngs.
The second edition of the handbook reflects the evolution of the field, incorporating a broader range of voices, methodologies, and theoretical approaches. It is designed to serve as a key resource for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners working at the intersection of education, politics, and policy.
