UW–Madison’s Mark H. (a.k.a. The NeoGriot) was featured on Mar. 24 in the African Studies Program’s Africa at Noon series in a talk titled, “The Way of the NeoGriot: Towards a True African American Theater.”

Mark H. is an assistant professor (acting and directing) in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, and an affiliate of the African Studies Program.

In his presentation — which was part personal narrative, part artistic statement — Mark H. offered a special glimpse into his life and work as he recounted how the empowering journey to uncover and reclaim a lost personal history led him on a mission to draw on that same history in developing his own unique African American theater, one firmly rooted in and guided by both African and American philosophies and practices.

A recording of the presentation is available, here.
