CCWT’s mission is to “conduct and support research, critical policy analysis, and public dialogue on student experiences with the transition from college to the workforce in order to inform policies, programs, and practices that promote academic and career success for all learners.”

Thompson is a licensed and registered health service psychologist whose research agenda focuses in two main areas: vocational and educational development, and mental health and psychotherapy. She attends to interpersonal and systemic factors — such as social class, experiences with oppression, and unemployment — that contribute to mental health and career development among individuals from diverse and underrepresented groups.

Thompson also is a faculty affiliate of the Institute for Research on Poverty, directs the Work & Wellness Lab, and is the academic director of faculty programs for the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity.
