The work of UW–Madison undergraduate students Aki Burayidi and Rakhi Winston was selected by an adjudication panel to be performed at the American College Dance Association’s (ACDA) Screendance Festival Gala Concert on Saturday, April 2.
Burayidi and Winston, who are seniors with the School of Education’s Dance Department, are having their work, “Between Us” showcased.
ACDA is hosting its second annual National Screendance Festival April 2-10 and is hoping to build off the momentum gained in its inaugural year. This year’s festival will take place in a virtual conference format over the course of two weekends, and features programming, sharing, viewing, and adjudicating screendances.
ACDA defines screendance as creative work conceived specifically for the digital screen integrating the arts and crafts of cinematography and choreography focused on the dancing body as the primary subject of creative expression.
The theme of this year’s event is, Confluence: Dance, Film and Future Landscapes. The festival will focus on the intersections of dance and film, choreography and cinematography, newer generations with screendance pioneers, and the professional landscape with higher education.
How and where do these ideas, practices and people converge or otherwise come together? Join us for ACDA’s Screendance Festival.
The work of Burayidi and Winston will be showcased in Gala Concert B, which takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. CT. The event is only open to ACDA members. Registration for the Screendance Festival is required, with more information available here.
Previously, UW–Madison junior dance student Abbi Stickels had her work, “White Noise,” chosen by an adjudication panel at ACDA North Central Regional Conference as one of the works to be performed at that event’s Gala Concert on March 22 at the UW-Milwaukee Peck School of the Arts.
