UW–Madison’s Russell-Camara appears in Milwaukee Rep’s ‘McNeal’

UW–Madison’s N’Jameh Russell-Camara, a teaching faculty member in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, is appearing in Milwaukee Repertory Theater’s new production of “McNeal,” opening Feb. 10.

Russell-Camara

Fresh from a sold-out Broadway run, Pulitzer Prize-winner Ayad Akhtar’s thrilling and darkly comic new work follows Jacob McNeal — a brilliant yet dangerously charming novelist obsessed with his own genius. On the eve of his greatest achievement, his thirst for whiskey, fractured relationships, and curious fascination with artificial intelligence threatens to unravel everything.

Russell-Camara plays the character of Natasha Brathwaite in the production. In a video about the play, she reflects on what drew her to the work: “One of the things I love about ‘McNeal’ is how Ayad Akhtar really talks about ambition in a way that you empathize with the characters.”

‘McNeal’ runs Feb. 10–March 22 at Milwaukee Repertory Theater. Tickets are available at milwaukeerep.com.
