UW–Madison’s Ann M. Shanahan, a professor of acting and directing in the School of Education’s Department of Theatre and Drama, is the co-author of a feature article in the winter 2026 issue of SDC Journal’s peer-reviewed section.

The article, titled “Changing Landscapes in Directing and Choreography in Higher Education: Reflections on a Decade of the Peer-Reviewed Section and New Paths Forward,” was written with Emily A. Rollie, a guest director and intimacy director. Shanahan and Rollie also serve as co-editors of the journal’s peer-reviewed section.
The piece reflects on the past 10 years of the publication and examines how directing and choreography in higher education have evolved during that time. It highlights shifts in professional practice, pedagogy, and collaboration, and includes examples drawn from productions directed or supported by Shanahan and colleagues at UW–Madison and other institutions.
The Winter 2026 issue of SDC Journal also includes conversations between theatre professionals, articles on directing and choreography, and essays on theatre history and practice.
