UW–Madison adapted fitness program holding open house April 11

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Gym 6 of the UW Natatorium, 2000 Observatory Dr.

The open house will highlight the outstanding work being done in the realm of adapted fitness on the UW–Madison campus, and will feature keynote speakers at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., and noon. The keynote speakers are selected individuals from the adapted fitness personal training program who have excelled in their performance and improvement towards optimal health and fitness, even around the adversity of having a disabling condition.

Following each of the keynotes, clients and college students will be working personally designed health fitness and therapeutic programming so that guests can gain insight into this dynamic program.

The program is housed in the School of Education’s Department of Kinesiology and is led by Distinguished Faculty Associate Tim Gattenby. The program hosts classes that serve people with a range of permanent and temporary disabilities. The classes serve people who are interested in personal training opportunities, stress management, weight management, and those individuals who might feel they need more personalized attention in getting started with learning about and establishing a healthier lifestyle.

The classes also offer a unique opportunity for UW–Madison students who are interested in learning how to better serve the diverse population that’s interested in staying healthy and active.

Parking for the open house event will be provided in lot 62 free of charge, with parking attendants present to help people park and enter the building.
