UW–Madison student Janel Anderson has been selected to attend the Philosophical Perspectives on Care Institute from July 12 – 29 at Reed College in Portland, Oregon.

Anderson is a PhD student in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (ELPA).

The institute, which has been made possible in part by a major grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, will address philosophical questions about the value and support of care and its connection to the state and the economy. Anderson is one of 25 scholars from across the nation who will spend three weeks working together to explore care and caregiving in political philosophy and theory.

This fellowship will allow Anderson to continue her work examining the intersection of care ethics, intensification, and the social reproduction of motherhood in the work of teachers. She thanks ELPA faculty Carolyn Kelley and Mollie McQuillan, and Christine Garlough in the Department of Gender and Women’s Studies, for their support and mentorship in her pursuit of this opportunity.
