The UW–Madison School of Education continues to grow its expertise across the arts, health, and education as it is in the midst of conducting and completing searches for 17 tenure-track faculty positions.

If all the searches are successful, Dean Diana Hess notes that eight of the School’s 10 departments will be welcoming new faculty members to campus for the start of the fall 2022 semester.
“So far we’ve had wonderful pools of applicants for these positions,” says Hess. “What makes our School so unique and outstanding is the depth of talented faculty members across our 10 departments — and I think we are in a great position to welcome another group of excellent scholars with diverse backgrounds and talents who will help us build upon our excellence.”
If the School fills the 17 tenure-track positions, it would be one of the largest cohorts to sign on with the School since its founding in 1930 — topping the 16 new hires in 2020, 14 in 2018, and 13 in 2019.
The School has approval to pursue faculty hires in the following departments, in the fields of (* means position is now filled):
- Art Department (3): Book Arts; Graphic Design; Ceramics
- Department of Counseling Psychology (1): Mental Health/Health Equity
- Department of Curriculum and Instruction (3): World Languages; Indigenous Education; Literacy
- Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis (3): International Higher Education; Quantitative Research Design, Policy, and Data Analysis; Equity and Social Justice
- Department of Educational Policy Studies (2): Economics of Education*; Politics of Education
- Department of Educational Psychology (2): Learning Sciences and Learning Analytics*; Computational Approaches to Language
- Department of Rehabilitation Psychology and Special Education (1): Rehabilitation Counseling Education
- Department of Theatre and Drama (2): Costume or Sound Design; Acting/Directing
Hess notes that the School similarly plans to hire three new clinical professors, plus leadership staff within the Wisconsin Center for Education Research, the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and the Career Center, among others.
