UW–Madison professor Suzanne Eckes has been selected as the recipient of the 2025 M.A. McGhehey Award from the Education Law Association, recognizing exceptional service to the field of education law and to the organization itself.

Eckes received the award during the Education Law Association’s 2025 annual conference, held Nov. 5–8 in Kansas City, Missouri.
The McGhehey Award is presented to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding service to the Education Law Association and whose work has made an impact nationally in the field of law and education. Eckes’ career exemplifies these standards.
Eckes is the Susan S. Engeleiter Professor of Education Law, Policy, and Practice in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. Her research examines how civil rights laws shape education policies in K–12 schools. She is the co-author or co-editor of numerous articles and books, including “Legal Rights of School Leaders, Teachers, and Students” (8th ed., Pearson). Eckes also serves as a faculty affiliate with the University of Wisconsin Law School.
