UW–Madison’s Mitchell Nathan offered his expertise to Madison’s WKOW/Ch. 27 last month, sharing his thoughts on the influence of artificial intelligence (AI) in college admissions.

Nathan is the Vilas Distinguished Achievement Professor in Learning Sciences in the School of Education’s Department of Educational Psychology.
“This tool is likely to be very useful for young people and their families as they’re trying to present themselves in the most appealing way in college admissions,” Nathan tells WKOW.
Nathan suggests that students think of AI as a tool or a resource when developing their applications. It’s not about whether students “should or shouldn’t” use AI, he tells WKOW, “it’s how they can make the most of it.”
He adds, however, that as AI progresses, “we are going to see changes.” He suggests that schools may begin to use alternative admissions requirements, such as video submissions, to evaluate students.
